Armchair

Jean Nouvel, 2007

SKiN is a quintessential example of how to use materials mindfully. This utopia-like, suspended, sculptural object evokes both the ancient and the innovative through its tubular pretensioned steel, leather upholstery and self-modelling geometric incisions.

Design Jean Nouvel, 2007

It is the mark of a great architect, but also a small technological revolution, created out of the experience of the Musée du quai Branly in Paris in 2006.

“The SKiN collection, consisting of an armchair and a sofa, takes shape with time and use. Leather contributes to this process too”

Design

Jean Nouvel

Jean Nouvel was born in 1945 in Fumel, France. His approach to design comes from a need to create objects for his own architectures. This approach created the Less table which was produced by Molteni&C. for the headquarters of the Cartier Foundation. The Ateliers Jean Nouvel design activities reflect a desire to develop an "architectural design."

"The elementarity I seek has nothing to do with minimalism. Even when it goes in for a bare minimum of material, design is no less creative"
